NEXT CLASS: COMIC BOOK MASTER CLASS

COMIC BOOK MASTER CLASS
Starts Tuesday Dec 13th 630pm-8pm
The scripted Batman and Superman meeting in a cafe assignment from the Comic Book Bootcamp class was so popular and well received that our next offering is a 10 week version of that.

This class presents the closest thing to working on a professional comic book you can get.  In this class you'll be given a specific script at the rate of a page a week, and you'll be expected to produce that page in a week.

Each page should take on average 4-8 hours depending on the level of detail you want to reach, breaking it down over the course of a week that equates to about an hour work per day.

Let's be honest here-- drawing comics is both an amazing way to express yourself and ridiculously hard work-- it takes a lot of effort to produce a page and this class will be asking you to draw 9 of them-- how do we do that with work, family, social lives, etc?  It's not easy but it's doable.  Stop making excuses for yourself.

This class will not only provide the script and the direction, but it will also provide the encouragement and camaraderie of like minded cartoonists who will offer the needed cheering squad to help you reach your goals.

If you cannot attend the live session, that's no problem, the scripts will be emailed along with instructions and personal one on one attention and you'll be given authorship to post your work to the blog for feedback.

So stop making excuses and see if you can commit to creating these pages.
We think you can.

Andy's credentials: Published comic book artist whose current and previous clients include Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Dark Horse Comics as well as Quarto Publishing in London, McFarland Press in North Carolina and various other publishing and marketing companies.  Andy is also the author and illustrator of several how to books including HOW TO DRAW SUPERHEROES, HOW TO DRAW GRAPHIC NOVELS and HOW TO DRAW FANTASY CREATURES all available on Amazon at at finer bookstores everywhere.

Most importantly, Andy has been working professionally as a comic book artist and illustrator for 15 years and will share all his experiences and mistakes with you.

We'll be providing the script, you'll be drawing the pages. Each week we'll go through the process and we'll show you the way professionals interpret a script that's been given to them.

At the end of the program you'll have a 9 or 10 page fully illustrated story.

Starts Tuesday Dec 13th 630pm Boston Time
Ends Tuesday Feb 28th
10wks (No class on Dec 27th or Feb 14th)

Inked version of Batman/Superman Page

First time I've tried inking using the tablet and stylus.
Has definite advantages, but is also tougher in soe ways as well.

After class drawing

Wasn't at all satisfied with the drawing I did in class,
so just began doodling in my sketchpad, and I like what came along.
Just letting the imagination roll without thinking about it.

9 Panel Phone Jockeys

This one was challenging!
Adapting the phone talkers to the characters in the right poses was tough.
With the Thing, I had it backwards, so erased it, then started over again, but kind of like the expression and energy in that one.

Here are mine - taken with a cell phone.

Hello by Sally Scott

Superhero Cafe - Alison

Here is my attempt at the homework.  I had fun doing this but only had about 4 hours - traveling again this week.  I realize I lost the background completely in the last two panels - oh well

Batman and Superman in cafe

Batty/Supey Page

Boy, this has been a fun one.  Did a bit of redrawing on a couple faces to get them more in line with what I wanted.  Still a bit of a mish mash of style here.  While it's just pencils now, I'm a'gonna ink it this week, and it should pop pretty well.
